Flattening 3D objects

چکیده
One important research area in Non-Photorealistic Rendering is to obtain silhouettes. There are many methods to obtain silhouettes from 3d models and raster structures, but they are limited in their ability to draw stylized silhouettes with complete flexibility. These limitations do not exist in illustration, as each element is plane and the interaction between them can be eliminated locating each one in a different layer. This is the approach that we present in this paper: a 3D model is flatted in plane elements ordered in space, which allows us to draw the silhouettes with total flexibility.

Creating Entirely Textured 3D Models of Real Objects Using Surface Flattening
We present a novel method to create entirely textured 3D models of real objects by combining partial texture mappings using surface flattening (surface parametrisation). Texturing a 3D model is not trivial. Texture mappings can be obtained from optical images, but usually one image is not sufficient to show the whole object; multiple images are required to cover the surface entirely. Merging pa...
متن کاملData Fusion for Photorealistic 3D Models
This study aims at building photorealistic 3D models of realworld objects. We discuss the problem of combining a 3D textureless model obtained by 3D scanner, with optical images that provide textural information of the object. Recently, we have proposed a novel method to register an uncalibrated image pair to a 3D surface model. After registration, the images are mapped to the surface. However,...
متن کامل3D Modelling of Under Ground Burried Objects Based on Ground Penetration Radar
There is a growing demand for mapping and 3D modelling of buried objects such as pipelines, agricultural hetitage, landmines and other buried objects. Usually, large scale and high resolution maps from these objects are needed. Manually map generation and modeling of these objects are cost and time consuming and is dependent on lots of resources. Therefore, automating the subsurface mapping and...
متن کاملRelative flattening between velvet and matte 3D shapes: evidence for similar shape-from-shading computations.
Among other cues, the visual system uses shading to infer the 3D shape of objects. The shading pattern depends on the illumination and reflectance properties (BRDF). In this study, we compared 3D shape perception between identical shapes with different BRDFs. The stimuli were photographed 3D printed random smooth shapes that were either painted matte gray or had a gray velvet layer. We used the...
متن کامل4D Hyperspherical Harmonic (HyperSPHARM) Representation of Multiple Disconnected Brain Subcortical Structures
We present a novel surface parameterization technique using hyperspherical harmonics (HSH) in representing compact, multiple, disconnected brain subcortical structures as a single analytic function. The proposed hyperspherical harmonic representation (HyperSPHARM) has many advantages over the widely used spherical harmonic (SPHARM) parameterization technique. SPHARM requires flattening 3D surfa...
